Our vintage inspired classic custom crafted trucker style meshback snapbacks represent the logos and rich history of the great negro and latin baseball leagues, barnstorming baseball teams, federal leagues and Japanese baseball.
The Sea Lions were one of 6 teams in the West Coast Negro Baseball Association founded in 1946. Under the leadership of Harlem Globetrotter’s owner Abe Saperstein and Olympian Jesse Owens, the league utilized Pacific Coast League stadiums while home teams were on the road. Unable to finance new uniforms, the organization purchased used uniforms from the minor league San Francisco Cubs organization, and the Sea Lions famously featured a bear cub as its logo. The league faced financial hardship from the onset and folded before completing its inaugural season. The Sea Lions barnstormed as an independent team for the next three seasons before disbanding. Although short-lived, San Francisco played an important role in popularizing baseball in the African-American communities of the West Coast. Notable players include Toni Stone, the first female professional baseball player, one-armed outfielder Jesse Alexander, Jim Hamilton, and Herald “BeeBop” Gordon.
