The Grays began in 1910 as a weekend recreational team of blue-collar workers in the steel mill town of Homestead, Pennsylvania. In 1920, under the careful curation of Hall of Fame executive and brilliant recruiter Cumberland Posey, the Grays were molded into a perennial powerhouse that captures the accolades of baseball historians to this day. This club amassed nine consecutive league titles and three Negro World Series championships from 1937-1948. The 1931 Grays roster is considered by many to be the most talented ball club to ever grace the diamond with five hall of famers, including Josh Gibson, Oscar Charleston, Jud Wilson, “Smokey” Joe Williams, and william “bill” Foster.
