The Stars originated from the suburbs of Darby, PA. Originally called the Hilldale Giants, the Stars won the 1934 Negro National League pennant. This team, owned by Ed Bolden, starred Biz Mackey, Dick Lundy, Jud Wilson and Slim Jones. Other excellent players who sported the cap were Gene Benson, William Cash, Stanely Glenn, Bus Clarkson, Pat Patterson and future Major Leaguer Harry “Suitcase” Simpson. The Stars played in the Negro National League from 1933-1948 and in the Negro American League from 1949-1952.
